Rewarding Volunteer Activities

Volunteers play an important role in supporting MDI Community Sailing, particularly through hands-on, behind-the-scenes projects that help keep our fleet and facilities ready for the season.

Volunteer opportunities vary throughout the year and are typically project-based, with guidance provided by staff. Many projects involve maintenance, organization/cleaning, and seasonal preparation, and are best suited for volunteers who are flexible, reliable, and comfortable working as part of a team. While some opportunities draw on specific skills, many projects are accessible to anyone willing to pitch in and help where needed.

Mount Desert Island Community Sailing Center has given us a chance to stay useful in rewarding volunteer activities aimed at keeping this vital community organization alive and functioning—both in a physical and fiscal sense. All of these boats need launching and hauling and maintenance, and we have been welcomed and encouraged to help to our heart’s content. There is nothing like doing boat work in the winter to remind us that spring and new times on the water are approaching.
